New Here?

Welcome to Southern Church!

Welcome to our church! We’re excited to have you join us for worship and fellowship. Here’s some helpful information to help you get to know us.

Our Sunday Services

Our services start at 9:30 am and go for around 1 hour and 15 minutes. There is plenty of parking onsite at the school hall we use on Sunday morning.

We sing songs of praise, usually followed by a time of voluntary sharing about something we are thankful to God for. We have a kid’s talk, and a one-minute meet-and-greet as the children get ready to leave for their program. Feel free to turn and say hi to someone nearby. After the children leave, there is a 20-25 minute sermon and we take communion.

Kids Program

We offer a vibrant children’s program during our service for preschool to grade 6. Our dedicated children’s ministry volunteers are trained and screened, and we provide a safe and engaging environment for your children to learn about Jesus. If you would like to place your child in the program, please ask a greeter for a permission form. If needed, we’ll text you during the service if your child requires your attention.

You’re welcome to stay with your child in the program or use our quiet play area at the back of the hall.

Please ask a greeter for more information or a tour of the children’s ministry classroom.

Communion

Every week, we celebrate communion together. After a short talk on the meaning of communion, we stand and walk to the communion table to collect a cracker and a cup of grape juice each. The communion crackers are gluten free. We pray and take the elements in our own time before returning to our seats. You’re welcome to join us in celebrating communion.

Expressions of worship

We see everything we do as worship – songs, prayers, teaching, communion, giving and loving one another.

Some of our members like to express their joy of being with God’s people in God’s presence through a tangible expression of worship as they sing. At Southern, this is facilitated through the use of flags. Each flag has a Bible verse on the stick and the colours of each flag has been chosen to represent different attributes of God. For example purple means royalty. The flags are set up at the back of the hall where some of our members like to stand and sing using the flag as they worship. If you would like to participate, you are more than welcome to.

Questions About Faith and Prayer

If you have questions about faith or would like prayer, our ministers are here to help. We run the Alpha course regularly to help people ask their spiritual questions in a safe and inclusive environment. You can also ask for prayer at the “Prayer Place” that is set up in the hall after the service. We’d love to pray for you.

Giving

Many members of our church regularly give an anonymous amount of their choosing towards the ministry of the church, this is sometimes called an “offering” or “tithe”.

Gifts are collected at the “Giving Station” at the side of the hall and can be made via cash or credit card. Our giving page has our bank details for our members who like to give via bank transfer.

Visitors will not be asked to make an offering and if the offering is mentioned from the front (which it usually isn’t), it is to keep our members informed. Please do not feel obligated to give as this is a ministry for our regular church family members.

Our Beliefs

We are part of the church of Christ network. The churches of Christ in NSW & ACT is a network of churches passionate about Unity, Restoration, and Life in Jesus! The churches of Christ NSW and ACT webpage has more information about the beliefs and values of the churches of Christ.

Ministries and Connection

Throughout the week, we offer various ministries and ways to connect with our community. We have ministries for Youth, Men and Women. Our weekly ministries are mostly run from “The Cottage” at 107A Tongarra Rd, Albion Park.

Visit our “Ministries” section on the webpage for more information and discover how you can get involved. If you would like to join a Bible Study group, please speak to a minister.

Fellowship and Refreshments

We love having guests! After the service, we invite you to stay and join us for a cuppa and morning tea. If you’re visiting for the first time, enjoy a complimentary espresso coffee with us!

We’re thrilled to have you with us and look forward to getting to know you better. If you have any further questions or need assistance during your visit, please don’t hesitate to ask. Welcome!
